Tools

Bview integrates 3 major tools :

  • Picking : pick a pixel's color.
  • Compare mode : show the differences between two images.
  • Annotations : paint/write notes directly on an image.

Picking tool

Bview allows you to retrieve a color's values by picking its pixel. The picking tool gives you the information below :

  • Point: color values.
  • Avg: average color values.
  • X/Y: cursor positioning.

Use picking tool

  • Key K to toggle (or Tool > Toggle Pick tool) picking window.
  • Picking window can be dragged with Left mouse button. Key R to reset its position.
  • To pick a color you have to press Key K while dragging the cursor.

Options

Many picking options are available when right clicking on the picking window :

  • Picking Type: select how picked color values are displayed.
    • Source Color: display the real pixel's values.
    • Display Color: display pixel's value with user's applied options (LUT, gamma, brighten).
  • Color representation: define in which color representation the values are displayed (RGB, HSV, HLS).
  • Compute: switch to different measure methods.
    • Average: display average values of picked pixels during the same picking action (all pixels within one drag).
    • Min: display minimal values of picked pixels (R, G, B, A) independently from each other.
    • Max: display maximal values of picked pixels (R, G, B, A) independently from each other.
  • Range: range in which values are displayed.
  • Copy: copy color values.

Picking window always shows values in the LINEAR color space.

Compare mode

In your review process, the comparison tool may be useful to highlight differences between two media.

Annotations

Bview allows annotations on any picture, sequence or movie with a simple editing tool. Annotations can be saved as pictures and linked to a Bview file (.bv) for further use.

View settings/options

Bview provides a large amount of options and settings for you to configure your images sequence or movie display.

Those features are accessible under View menu or directly on the toolbar.

Easy-To-Access settings

6 basic features are set on the toolbar for a fast access alongside with 2 information fields.

  • A : set your buffer A and B by clicking on the letter A/B then selecting your sequence or movie.
  • TEST : display your file name.
  • 720x576 RGB 8 : display your file resolution, color space and color depth.
  • NONE : apply a global LUT.
  • sRGB : set a color space.
  • Gamma : set gamma.
  • Brightness : set brightness.
  • Toggle RGB/Alpha : switch from RGB to alpha.

View menu

Other features are available via View menu :

  • Buffer A / Buffer B : same options as on the toolbar. Buffers triggered with Keys 1 and 2.
  • Spectre : toggle image's spectre. Key S.
  • Color Channel : change color channel.
  • Zoom : display zoom options.
  • Orientation : display orientation options.
  • Stereo : display stereo options. Only works when stereo files are loaded.
  • Toggle Alpha : same option as on the toolbar. Also triggered with Key A.
  • Change Background Color : switch to another background color.
  • Toggle Border : display image's borders (red outline). Toggled by Key B.
  • Toggle Checkboard : display checkboard. Key G.
  • Toggle Grid : display grid.
  • Toggle image Info : display image's information : resolution, color space, color depth, cursor position, pixel's color values.
  • Toggle Metadata display : display metadata.
  • Toggle Color Management : enable/disable color management.
